Poodle Patterns
live action, 56 minutes

This is an excellent video for anyone interested in learning how to groom a poodle. The basic skills for three popular poodle clips are covered: the Puppy, Town and Country and Royal Dutch.
A professional poodle groomer clearly demonstrates how to clip and scissor feet, ears, face, belly, tail and body for each cut. The need for a co-operative dog who can follow sit, stand and stay commands is stressed. Necessary grooming tools are displayed throughout the grooming process and ear cleaning and nail clipping are also covered. Creating a top knot, a moustache and a teddy bear face round out this program which ends with three beautifully groomed and happy poodles.
The voice-over narration makes it easy to follow along as the instructions match the technique being demonstrated. The video production and sound quality are excellent. Occasional close-up views greatly enhance the instructional quality of this well paced program. Appealing background music keeps the viewer tuned in when demonstration, not narration, is most important. A title frame introduces each new grooming technique demonstrated, making it possible to scan the program for a particular grooming segment.
Poodles are popular pets for a variety of reasons, but their rapidly growing coats require constant attention to keep them looking their best. Public libraries with pet care collections will find this video an excellent purchase because it covers the poodle grooming process in such a clear, well-organized and attractive manner.
